The Wesley Sneijder Conundrum

Earlier today, Internazionale president Massimo Moratti revealed that we have expressed an interest in signing the World Player of the Year candidate Wesley Sneijder. He also said he didn’t look into our interest because he’s afraid he will be tempted into selling him. In my opinion, this is the signal for us to go and sign him. If we give Mr. Moratti an appealing enough offer, we will reach a fair deal with them and he will switch life in the San Siro to Old Trafford.

As every football fan around the world knows by now, he has been the catalyst of Inter Milan dominance at home and abroad as they clinched a memorable treble and he is also the heartbeat of the Dutch team which has advanced to the World Cup final. He scored his 5th goal of the World Cup as he competes with David Villa for the Golden Boot. He has also contributed with a number of assists. But I’m not going into any further detail about his World Cup exploits or even bother analysing his incredible season with Inter. Why? Because I don’t even want him at United.

The last 10 months of his life as a footballer have been the greatest of his life. He has conquered everything before and after him. He has been central to all the beautiful football around him. Unfortunately when someone has a golden season like this, there price tag soars. And in this day and age it will have soared astronomically. If Arsenal are looking for £30m for Fabregas, then surely Inter Milan will be looking for a minimum of £35m. With our extremely tight budget and spiralling debt, that is just grossly out of the question. However, not only is it the price tag which is putting me off but it’s what I’ve already seen at the club. Anderson will be ready for next season. Cleverly is a truly gifted football also. Darron Gibson is another young lad whose come in for unfair criticism and he is a really talented player too. Scholes still has another year left in him at the top level. You may think I’m clutching at straws but £35m on an attacking midfield is way too much for me.

I firmly believe we have enough attacking midfielders in our ranks to stay away from the ‘inflated market’ as our manager labelled it. What was the point in paying £18m on Anderson if he never got a run of games deployed in an attacking role in midfield?

All in all Sneidjer for me is a big no-no and we should save our cash instead of spending it frivolously.

You must be a fool to draw up this article, a real imbecile, did u just mention cleverly? am still laughing because i know your type, you would be among the first people to draw rain, blacklist and fire tantrums on united and SAF when they do not win any trophy next season…. common man get real and go back to drinking urine.

  2. WTF, are you serously kidding me, you want one of the best football clubs in the whole white world to skip a deal of 35mill pounds for the best available midfielder in the world, who is showing the world what a capable player he is on a world stage, with astonishing 5 goals in the world cup, so far, the final is on sunday, and you want us to stick with Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverly in stead, and bring Anderson more in an attacking position,
you must be smoking if you think that Gibson can be half as good as Wesley, and Anderson in my opinion deserves a chance next season because of injury, but if his head is stuck in his arse, the Fergie has no option but to sell him, but Cleverly isn’t a Premier League Quality and has still a few years to be mature enough in that class, so we’re not going to win the title back with Scholes og his last season, Giggs on his last, Van der sar on his last, Neville on his last, with the cover of Gibson,Cleverly, and midfield of Carrick,Hargreaves (if he stays fit) Fletcher,Anderson,Nani,Park,Valencia, we need a playmaking midfielder who scores goals. That´s Sneijder, it´s as simple as that,
Possible players picking upp Injury’s ; Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen,Rio Ferdinand,Wes Brown,Scholes,Giggs,Neville, the last 3 because of age.
So I think Snejder is our guy, and I don’t give a shit, about 35mill pounds, we could off load Berbatov,Welbeck and maybe O’shea
    To get funds for Sneijder..
    MAN U TILL I DIE….

  3. “What was the point in paying £18m on Anderson if he never got a run of games deployed in an attacking role in midfield?
Well the answer of that question my friend is that Fergie, has decided to use his energy and strenght to play down in the midfield era, not in his favourite position, so you have to ask SAF about that, I agree entirely, Anderson should be playin in the hole behind one Striker.
But as you know the boss seems to think otherwise.

  4. i dont wsnt sneijder, but have anyone else noticed that everyone are willing to sell to anyone who is not manchester united, rumours we wanted both villa and sellout silva and even do we didnt want the sellout they both went elsewhere yet valencia wants hernandez on loan, udinese are refusing to open up to sanchez desire to play for us, sevilla dont want us to have fabiano, muller would cost a idiotic 40m from munich, well ajax wouldnt stop suarez from joining if we went for him but thats like it.

  5. must be a new unwritten rule – DONT SELL TO MANCHESTER UNITED.

  6. we have a fantastic youth system with many ready to play in the first team and dont really need to buy anyone. cleverley, james, gill, norwood, both evans, welbeck, diouf, macheda, gibson, rafael, fabio, drinkwater, hernandez, nani, obertan, anderson, pogba, brandy, turnicliffe to name a few of our young players are the future of the club and fletcher, carrick, ferdinand, evra, vidic, owen, rooney, park, oshea and brown still have some time. aldo i am really gonna miss giggs, scholes and neville.

  7. i have watched united for near on twenty years and seen so many greats come and go and it always hurts, iam really gonna miss giggs, scholes and neville when they go and i really hate the idea of sir alex ferguson retiring as he is god, the greatest of all time and i dont ever want fergie to leave, i want fergie to stay for-ever as he (just like sir matt busby) is manchester united.

  8. It’s quite obvious Moratti was being facetious. He won’t be selling Sneijder after the year he’s just had. And if he were to sell him, Man U couldn’t afford him.

  9. This player will be one of the biggest misses by Fergie, I was desperate that we land Sneijder and Robben from Madrid, Sneijder at the price he went to Inter for is a bargain. Even at 30 mill, I think he is a player that can keep the misfield ticking for the next 5-7 years for us. It is unfortunate that we have to end up paying over the top for players because it is us but players who are going to add so much for a long time never come cheap. We could still raise money off of the likes of Anderson, Gibson. Though Ando may still yet do a Nani.

  10. sorry… “misfield” was meant to be “misfiring midfield”

  11. alvido, this wll not be a major miss for fergie, hevwill moveon and we dont have a misfiringmidfield, the midfiled is great and does score a fair number of goals. we dont need nor do i reallly want sneijder. but your opinion is yours and you have a right to want sneijder, but i thinkwe can do better witheither a bigger name or use our youth to fill the gaps.

  12. I think we can forget about Anderson becoming an ‘attacking midfielder’. This world cup has taught us many things 1- pressing is still king, 2 – possession is everything, 3 -playmakers are on the comeback and 4, 4-2-3-1 rules….

I just don’t see Anderson being the playmaker in that system supporting Rooney. We desperately need one but there’s no evidence that Anderson has the qualities or inclination to do it.

As for Sneijder… 35m and 150k a week in wages means this is a total non-starter.

  13. I am not saying we need the player, but if i were to have an addition this year, I would love it to be Sneijder. I think we are good on the wings and unless we get rid of Berba adding another striker would be moot.

  14. as for the clown who said we cant afford him, i know the small unknown loser club you support cant but we can. £100m transfer budget say different and nobody need say we dont because we do. if we really want sneijder we could get him but with any luck we dont and most likely inter and his agent are making it up.

  15. as for the clown who said we cant afford him, i know the small unknown loser club you support cant but we can. £100m transfer budget say different and nobody need say we dont because we do. if we really want sneijder we could get him but with any luck we dont and most likely inter and his agent are making it up. we have been linked to 118 names so far towhich most are not good enough for us.

  16. United do not need Sneijder. He is a good player but he will never repeat the past season and Serie A and the World Cup is not Premier League.

  17. One player I would like to see instead is Sebastian Giovinco but that will never happen due to his size, only 164 cm tall. He is the closest thing there is to Messi and the only way to stop him is to kick him down.

He made a fool of several Chelsea players in CL so maybe he can play in PL.

  18. Who’ve United bought to replace Tosic and Ljajic? They were £18million saved.
