United striker retires from international football

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has announced his retirement from international football, with immediate effect.

The Manchester United forward, aged 29, has an impressive record of 48 goals in 77 games for his national side, but has decided to call time on his international career for many “small and big reasons”, including his recent injury problems for United.

“I’ve thought a lot about this decision,” he said.

“I’ve been playing for the national team for 11 years. There are a lot of small and big reasons for my decision.

“I feel tired and have had some injury problems recently. Deep inside of me I think I had to say stop.”
