Same United same aim, same old issues.
Same United same aim, same old issues.
We all know that having all the ingredients doesn’t guarantee that you can win football matches. That’s where I think this United squad is falling down. We have the same old issues as we did at the end of last season. This is quite embarrassing when you consider how long we have had to sort it out.
The first issue has to be our lack of quality going through the middle of the park. We no longer have a quality central midfielder player who can beat two or three players at a time. We have our one outstanding central midfielder in Darren Fletcher and the rest generally fill in the gaps according to the opposition on that particular match day. ( I will definitely concede that a 25 year old Paul Scholes would be more than sufficient as his partner. Even though he didn’t take players on his ability to score goals replaced that need) This leaves us with an aging Scholes, who sits very a deep and then more often than not a Fletcher. Who is asked to go box to box without having the necessary skills to hurt teams offensively. In our strange modernised way we ask Scholes to hold and Fletch to drive on.
What should happen is Fletcher provides everything that Scholes can supply to the team ie goals but NOT his four yard passes. (As Fletcher on the ball, has significantly improved his game) Added to the defensive qualities that Fletcher brings to team. This leaves a void for a skilful attacking midfielder, capable of picking out defence splitting passes and taking players out of the game by taking it past them.
The only player who comes near that type of player is Anderson, who for me had his best season in United shirt in his first season at the club. I do however subscribe to the belief of some, that after Andersons bad injury which I believe he suffered at Porto he has lost some of his killer pace. Of course the proposed signing of Ozil would have been the solution or at least provided the potential for a credible antidote.

sorry feller but ozil is over-rated rubbish that would of offered nothing we dont already have, to say we have no real attacking quality or a quality central midfielder is total bull aswell as Scholes can still breakdown opposition as easy as always, aldo Giggs is a winger he is a threat nomatter what position he plays, Gibbo is an outstanding player with an eye for goal, Cleverley is a star ready to be born, Bebe to what I hear and seen will be great in a central midfield role and on the wing feller.
we also have wingers Nani and Valencia who are always a threat and can take on anyone. Obertan looks like he can be a real star, Anderson clearly haves Fergie’s support and I believe he can a real attacking force. Park is good in a attacking and defensive role, Carrick is pretty useless these days but if he recaptures his form he will be a threat. you already mentioned Fletcher and well Hargreaves is questionable these days. I wouldn’t say no to a new midfield signing of some quality, but one isn’t needed.
