Smalling Grateful Of Fulham’s Role In His Development

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has paid tribute to former club Fulham for developing him as a footballer.

United completed the signing of the centre half in January, but allowed him to stay at Fulham until the Summer.

Smalling will return to Fulham on Sunday as United travel to Craven Cottage in the league and is eager to catch up with some old friends.

United are 8/13 favourites on betrescue.com to follow up their impressive performance against Newcastle with another win.

“I owe Fulham a lot,” said Smalling. “They gave me my chance. When I finished school they gave me the chance to develop.

“I was in the reserves and then broke into the first-team squad last year. I made a lot of friends there, a lot of coaches who helped me are still there.

“Billy McKinlay gave me a lot of support over the last couple of years and he deserves a lot of credit.

“It will be a bit weird going back but I hope it will be an enjoyable day.”
