Sir Alex confident Rooney will play in the derby

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Wayne Rooney will be fit to start the weekend’s derby match against Manchester City.

The in form striker has spearheaded United’s attack this season, scoring 24 goals in the process. He has become crucial to United’s style of play and will be a massive boost to Sir Alex if he’s able to name him on the team sheet this Saturday.

Rooney aggravated an injury playing against Bayern munich a week ago, after defender Daniel Van Buyten deliberately targetted his ankle.

But Sir Alex insists the injury isn’t severe and is certain Rooney will be able to take to the pitch against City this weekend.

“It’s not serious and I think he will be ready for the City game,” Ferguson said.
