Rooney values United medals more than World Cup glory
Wayne Rooney is of the same mindset of the majority of Manchester United fans that United > England.
The striker insists he wouldn’t want a World Cup winners medal if it meant sacrificing his Manchester United medal haul.
“With all the trophies I’ve won so far, it’s involved so much hard work from myself and my team-mates, so I’d never give them away for anything,” Rooney told the Mirror.
“But to win a World Cup would be an unbelievable feeling.”
Rooney believes Fabio Capello has a genuine chance of bringing the World cup back to England and it’s his attention to detail that makes him stand out as a manager.
“He’s a great manager,” said Rooney. “On the training pitch, if he sees anything, instead of carrying on the session, he’ll stop everything.
“Then he’ll go over it time and time again until he gets the small details right. When you get the small details right, then everything else is right.”
Rooney believes England do have a chance of wining the competition in South Africa, but knows that you can be out of it after just one bad game.
“You’d like to hope so, but anything can happen in a tournament,” said Rooney. “You could be flying in all of the games and then out of the competition in the next.
“We have to make sure we get it right and go further than we’ve done in previous years and hopefully try to win something.”
