Rooney to go on scoring spree

Mike Phelan believes Wayne Rooney may be about to go on one of his typical scoring sprees.

The Manchester United striker often has a run of games without scoring, then scores is several games in a row.

Phelan believes the frustration from Rooney’s latest barren run prompted the hat trick he scored last weekend and hopes more goals are to come.

“Yes, he was a bit frustrated,” Phelan told ESPN.

“He sets good targets for himself, targets he wants to hit. But he is a great character to have around the football club.

“His work-rate never wanes and you can count on one hand the number of games he has not played to his best.”

“We would hope Wayne can score a hat-trick in every game. It’s good for us and him.

“He is a determined character. And when Wayne is scoring goals it means this football team is doing well.”
