Rooney: We’ll get number 19 before Liverpool

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has his eyes firmly fixed on a fourth consecutive Premier League crown and can’t wait to move ahead of Liverpool on number of titles won.

United currently share the record of 18 league titles with their Merseyside rivals, but are in contention to win number 19 this season, thanks to the form of the Liverpool born forward.

“I’ve always felt the league is the most important one to win, but especially this year. If we do that it will be four on the run, which no one has done before.”

“And we would go above Liverpool’s number of titles so to do it this year would be a big, big moment for everyone at the club.”

The champions have suffered unprecedented injuries this term, at one point having eight senior defenders injured and having to play Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher in central defence, but Rooney believes the squad has coped well with the injuries and has enough quality to get over the finish line ahead of Chelsea.

“We’ve had some injuries but those who have come in have done good jobs. We definitely have a strong enough squad.”

Last season’s title win finally silenced the dippers and threw their famous banner back in their faces. It read, “Au revoir Cantona, come back when you’ve won 18″.

United won number 18, and after winning the Carling Cup a few weeks ago became the most domestically successful club in England.

  1. After Wednesday i am now starting to believe the league and CL double is possible. Especially if we play Fletch and Park as attacking midfielders in the 4-5-1 formation.

  2. I agree with you Bill… we can do it

Park is doing a great job… he proved that he can play in other positions and can be given different tasks… All players are playing with confident and i wish this last until the end of the season
