Four goal Rooney sends United top of the league

Manchester United went top of the league today with a four goal victory over struggling Hull City.

United scored early through Wayne Rooney and then spurned several chances to secure the points throughout the first half.

Nani was in fine form and created numerous chances for Michal Owen and Rooney, but they went in at half time just 1-0 in front.

The second half was no different. United dominating play while Hull only threatened from set pieces. HOwever, united’s profligate finishing meant hull still had one foot in the game. It took until late on to grab the second goal.

Rooney was again the scorer as he thrashed the ball past the helpless Craig Fagan. And it was Rooney to complete his hat trick minutes later after an inch perfect cross from Nani.

He grabbed a fourth in extra time after berbatov’s vision set him up beautifully. Despite the attention of three defenders, Rooney showed his excellent finishing ability to round off the scoring.

It was a comprehensive victory for United and they’ll be happy to be top of the league again, albeit having played a game more.

Special mention to the fans who were magnificent with their anti-Glazer chants.
