Rooney confident of breaking record

Wayne Rooney believes it’s just a matter of time until he beats the 23 goals he scored in the 2006/2007 season and you’d be a fool not to believe him.

He’s currently on 15 goals halfway through the season and with the form he’s in now, you wouldn’t bet against him doubling that total in the second half of the season.

His finishing has improved massively this season, but he’s also been slightly unlucky. He hit the post and the bar on Wednesday night against Wigan and will feel unfortunate not to have scored a hat trick.

14 of his 15 goals this season have come in the league, making him joint top scorer alongside Jermain Defoe and Didier Drogba.

Rooney needs just 8 more to beat his previous best.

“I would hope to beat my best total,” Rooney told FIFA.com.

“If I don’t get another eight goals from now until the end of the season there is something seriously wrong.

“I hit the post before I scored and the bar afterwards. I am doing well and I feel fit. Hopefully that will continue.”
