Ridiculous rumour of the day – Rooney to Madrid for £80M

January 1st signalled the official opening of the January transfer window and what I like to call “Silly Season”. As with all transfer windows, it was bound to bring it’s fair share of transfer muppetry, but the Daily Star have exceeded a level of disbelief I didn’t think was possible with their latest “Exclusive”.

According to their “unnamed source”, Real Madrid are preparing a 60Million bid to bring Wayne Rooney to the Bernabeu next Summer. The “source” says they will pursue Rooney with the same relentless approach that saw them eventually land Cristiano Ronaldo for a record 80Million last Summer.

“Rooney is the top name on the list for next summer. Madrid will pursue him in the same way they did with David Beckham and Ronaldo. They are always successful and will do what it takes to get Rooney.’’

Funny how these “sources” are always anonymous isn”t it?
