Portugal deny Nani drug rumours
The Portuguese football association has been forced to strenuously deny rumours that Manchester United winger Nani has failed a drugs test.
The impressive winger has been ruled out of the World Cup in South Africa after injuring himself in training, but rumours have been growing that the injury was just a cover up and that Nani had failed a random dope test.
The rumours – seemingly with no foundation – have been denied by the vice-president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Amandio de Carvalho, who said: “Nani was indeed injured. He fell badly in training and injured himself.
“There’s no intention to hide anything. There’s no need for an operation. He just needs time to recover. He can stay with us during the World Cup, if he wants.”
The head of anti doping in Portugal, Luis Horta, added: “The rumours going around are without foundation.
“At least, with the controls carried out at the anti-doping authority in Portugal there exists no problem.
“Urine and blood samples were collected randomly. As far as we know, it all went well.”
