Ferguson: Green and gold protests show that our fans care

The green and gold campaign organized by Manchester United fans as a protest against the rising debt levied on the club by the Glazer family has finally found its was to Sir Alex Ferguson‘s door.

The United boss has seen growing numbers of fans wearing the club’s founding colours at Old Trafford, but has until now remained quiet on the subject, but he has now chosen to comment on the protests, insisting, “It’s not a concern to me.”

“It doesn’t matter what colours they wear, they’re still supporting the one team. It just shows we have fans who care for the club.

“Every fan has a right to complain about what they think is right but we also have to run the club the way we think is the right way and I think we are doing the right thing with the club.

“The foundation of the club is just the same as it has been for the last few years.” (Except for the hundreds of millions of pounds of debt eh?)

“We have a good youth set-up, the first team are doing well and that’s what concerns me more than anything.

“Obviously there are fans protesting and we understand where it is coming from but we carry on with the football side of it.

“I’ve made my point to the supporters as long as it doesn’t interrupt or interfere with the progress of the team and I think they realise that too.”

In truth his comments are as positive as they could be. He can’t be seen to be actively encouraging the protests because the Glazer’s are his employers and it wouldn’t be a wise move, but at the same time he answered diplomatically and didn’t criticize the fans.

On the contrary his comment that “It just shows we have fans who care” is more than what was to be expected. In the past, Glazer protesters have been told to “f*ck off and support Chelsea“, so I’m just grateful he hasn’t said anything negative.

The green and gold campaign is getting more coverage in the national press, and the fact that the manager of the team has talked about it shows that we’re doing a good job. So keep up the good work, wear your green and gold and keep the anti-Glazer chants going.
