Fergie: I don’t think Wenger believes it for a minute
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has criticized the way Arsene Wenger hit out at Darren Fletcher following United’s 2-1 victory over the Gunners early in the season.
Arsenal self destructed in the game, giving away a penalty and then scoring an own goal to hand victory to United, but rather than criticize his own players for lacking concentration, Wenger accused Fletcher of systematically fouling his players throughout the game.
Without naming Fletcher directly, Wenger had the following to say:
“players who play only to make fouls. And who are never punished, who make repeated fouls, and are never punished. And who get out of the game without a yellow card.”
Sir Alex believes this is where Wenger is wrong.
“That is where Arsene lets himself down,” Ferguson said.
“What he said was disappointing and actually, I don’t think he believes it for a minute.
“Everyone knows that Darren Fletcher is not a dirty player or a physical player. He is not built that way.
“But he can win the ball and his timing and energy to get to it is fantastic. You can’t call that a fault.
“Being able to tackle properly is a great part of the game.”

I don’t think Fergie believes that for a second.
Seems everyone knew who Wenger was talking about without naming a player – says it all, you northern mugs

Anyone noticed the elephant in the room? 1) Wenger did not name Fletcher directly. 2) Fergie says “Everyone knows that Darren Fletcher is not a dirty player…”

‘gave away a penalty…’ funny stuff!! Arsenal always ‘give’ Rooney penalties, odd that…I love the lack of sportsmanship between our two sides…but your Man U players are definitley better at it.

Wonder if Wenger has more of a problem with Gallas’ horrible antics and constant malicious kicking out or mistimed challenges or a player who is constantly battling for possession. Seem to me that if he wants to clean up his beautiful game, he needs to first start with his own players…
