Fergie: We deserved something for our second half performance
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was gracious in defeat as United slumped to their fourth league defeat of the season.
Aston Villa took the 3 points to claim their first win at Old Trafford since 1983! The win took them up to third place, one ahead of fourth placed Arsenal.
Sir Alex admitted Villa had been the slightly better side in the first half, but thought United’s second half domination meant they deserved to take something from the game.
“Second half I think we deserved something,” Ferguson told ESPN.
“There wasn’t much in it first half, they probably just shaded it and deserved the goal.
“Second half we pummelled them, had a lot of good chances and didn’t get any.
“It’s just one of those days it wasn’t going in.”
He also had cause to complain about added time once again. Referee Martin Atkinson added just 3 minutes on at the end of 90 minutes, despite their being five substitutions in the second half, plus two injuries and lots of time wasting from Aston Villa.
“You get to the point on adding time on, it should be taken out of the referee’s hands,” he said.
“There were two stoppages of two minutes three seconds and we played three minutes.”
United are now 3 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
