Fergie: It means as much to as as it does to City

Sir Alex Ferguson insists that tonight’s Carling Cup semi final means just as much to Manchester United as it does to bitter rivals Manchester City.

The United boss was speaking ahead of the game at Eastlands tonight and thinks the fact that the Carling Cup would be City’s first trophy in 34 years has no bearing in games like these.

“It is a popular argument that this means more to City,” Sir Alex told the M.E.N.

“But, as far as I am concerned, it is a semi-final. It doesn’t matter how many you have played in, they are occasions you always want to do well in.

“The rivalry creates far more emotion. You can’t compare United and City to Rangers and Celtic, but we are obviously in the same City and they are also making a better fist of their league programme this year.”
