Fergie leads campaign to end Wenger chant
Sir Alex Ferguson will write an open letter to Manchester United fans in a bid to finally end the disgusting chant aimed at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger is regularly subjected to chants of “Sit down you paedophile” when visiting Old Trafford by a minority of fans. Campaigns have been started on several Manchester United forums over the years to stop the chant, with fans who sing it being criticized by the vast majority of reasonable supporters.
“”We have gone on the record several times about this disgusting chant. We don’t condone it and have appealed to fans several times in the past but to no avail,” said a United spokesman. “There are many chants that opposing fans find objectionable, and this is certainly one to which all decent supporters should object.”"
United have previously made attempts to curb the chant by publishing warnings in the matchday programmes. And Sir Alex has even suggested the police should do their job and arrest the offending fans inside the stadium.
A forum-wide campaign led by Sir Alex is said to be on the horizon, with a letter being sent to the many unofficial websites, official fanzines and supporters clubs. Failure to listen to the request could result in fans being ejected from Old Trafford and in extreme cases having their season tickets confiscated.
