Fergie: Foster is still England’s best ‘keeper

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Ben Foster is still England’s number one goalkeeper, despite not picking him for Manchester United since Edwin van der Sar returned to fitness.

Foster was given his chance to shine at the start of this season with van der Sar out injured, but made a series of high profile calamities for United that have now seen him drop to third in the pecking order behind the Dutchman and Tomasz Kuszczak.

However, Sir Alex believes Foster is still the best of England’s current goalkeepers and insists his comments are not just because Foster is a United player.

“Ben has got the best presence of all the English goalkeepers at the moment and he’s also the quickest,” Ferguson said.

“I’m not protecting the lad because he’s my goalkeeper. But I look at the abilities of the other English keepers in the Premier League and I don’t think they’re as good as Ben.”

  1. Ferge is on a wind up here :D

  2. Foster’s shit. Good keeper but he bottles it too often to make it at top level. Fergie is just trying to boost the lad’s confidence.
