Fergie tried to bring Maldini to United

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he once tried to sign AC Milan star Paulo Maldini.

The Italian defender played more than 900 games over half a century for Milan. Sir Alex admits he tried to sign him but knew it could never happen after speaking to his father, Cesare.

“I always wanted to get Paolo here but it was impossible,” Ferguson said.

“I met his father at a game and told him how much I’d love to have his son at United.

“Cesare smiled at me and said ‘My grandfather was Milan, my father was Milan, I played for Milan and now my son is Milan’. And that was it – story over!”

  1. Paolo Maldini is a Legend, my legend and the legeng of all Milan supporters that love team.
Tank you Paolo vecchio cuore Rossonero.

  2. Like Owen, how laughable this is. Going for, and playing players who are well past it
