Evans – Sometimes you have to beat the ref as well

Jonny Evans has joined John O’Shea, Darren Fletcher and Sir Alex Ferguson by claiming Manchester United are suffering at the hands of the referees this season.

The Northern Irish central defender believes the 50/50 decisions are often going in the opponents favour and it’s having an effect on the players morale in the dressing room He continued by saying they feel like they have to beat the referee as well as the other team.

“We are usually quite good with referees,” Evans told Sky Sports News. “I think there are a lot of teams that do a lot of play-acting, but I don’t think that’s the case with Manchester United.

“I think we do try and play fair and not many of us would roll around and try and cheat.

“Sometimes the 50-50 decisions, that you would hope because of that would go in your way, have not been really going our way lately and I think that’s what has maybe been disheartening a few of the lads, but that’s football.

“Sometimes you have got to beat the referee as well and that is what we are going to try and do.”

  1. He's not wrong! We're getting fucked over almost every game since Fergie's comments. not to sound paranoid but I think the ref's are giving us a hard time for sure.

  2. I defo think we're getting the soggy end of the stick with most decisions so far. We got a bit lucky in the Arsenal game with the Fletcher/Arshavin penalty decision but that's the only decision I can recall in our favour, everything lse has been against. the FA should really look into it if it carries on because it's becoming clear that the referees have an axe to grind.

  3. jonny is right, but there's nothing they can do about it. they just have to work that much harder. it'll help to build the siege mentality that fergie loves to instill in the dressing room. when he gets the players thinking everyone is against them it just makes them more eager to prove a opint by beating everybody in sight.

  4. It’s amazing rerally that half the world believes the refrees are working in our favour, but if they actually watched us play they’d realize we get done over nearly every game by poor decisions, especially offsides. Good on the lads for speaking up about it, it might put some pressure on the referees to do their jobs properly for once.

  5. Well said Jonny. Future legend in the making.
