Defeat hurts, but look on the bright side
Following yesterday’s demoralizing defeat to Leeds United it’s hard to think of any possible positives to look towards. We were beaten by a team two divisions below us who also happened to be one of our most bitter rivals. What good could possibly come of it?
As an optimist I’m hoping it’ll spark a reaction from not just Sir Alex Ferguson, but the players too. The manager has to realize that defeat on Wednesday against Manchester City is no longer an option. One loss against a major rival is bad enough, but to lose to two major rivals in under a week is unacceptable.
The loss should compel Ferguson to play his strongest possible team and to give them a good talking to before they go out onto the pitch on Wednesday night about exactly what it means to play for Manchester United. He should use the defeat as a catalyst to spur us on to beat City and kick on until the end of the season.
In November 2008 we lost to Arsenal in the league, and it prompted a record breaking defensive run that lasted until the middle of February. Replicating that will be difficult, but I fully expect the team to put together a run of wins and keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea. If anyone can bounce back from such a demoralizing defeat it’s Manchester United!
Defeat against Leeds hurts. There’s no getting away from that fact. But stay positive and get behind the team because they’ll need our backing when we take on the bitters on Wednesday.

You make it sound like fergusons been in the job for twelve months.
I think he knows more about United than that of a simple minded knee jerk reaction, which United have some many fans like.
I have said this all along United are in abit of a transition at the moment,we have young players who like them before them are inconsistant and overal a terrible long injury list which is slowly turning on a brighter side, but even then the players need a good run of about 6 games until they feel that sharpness again.
Yes awful result BUT Im fully behind Fergie, and why shouldnt I look at the amazing memories his teams have produced.
I really hate people who take things for granted, selfish people.
@ Bob
I think you’ve got the wrong idea about the article. Or perhaps I didn’t explain myself well enough. I don’t know better then Fergie and never will. And I didn’t mean it to sound that way.
I was simply trying to guess what he might do for Wednesday and look on the positive side, rather than be a knee jerk fan like you mention and be all negative. I’m just hoping he’ll use the defeat as a stick to beat the players with in training so we get a reaction on Wednesday against City, and I believe that’s exactly what he’ll do.
What the f### happened to Old Trafford?
1000`s leaving before the end.
You lost your soul many moons ago.
Outplayed on the pitch by the players, Humilated off the pitch by the support.
Unbelievable
I hope you’re right mate. I don’t think I could handle losing to Citeh after losing to the sheep worryers.
Could be worse, we could be scouse!
As a leeds fan i have to say great result for us but as one of the rare leeds fans who does not hate man u I feel I need to point out just how fickle some of your fans are. I wish we were second in the prem and still in the carling semi oh did i mention the champions league? well you won’t lose to city you will win the league and i cross my fingers for you in the champions league. stop moaning and be happy for what you do have cos the only thing your team lacks is the sponsership of carling where it says prob the best team in the world.
ps i don’t like sheep myself
To see how the supporters leaving the stand is horrible(((( Even if we lost, we still MANUNITED!! And I think it is not the worst season, what we have in our history…. Team need time for re-building and SUPPORT.
