Smalling – 9 Exceptional performance from the youngster. Can only get better.

Vidic – 7 Caught out of position a few times, but made up for it with some good tackling.

Evra – 7 Still looking suspect defensively, but got forward well to support Giggs.

Nani – 8 Another fantastic goal for Nani and another assist. Theres no stopping him at the moment.

Fletcher – 7 Kept things ticking over in midfield without doing anything that stood out.

Scholes – 7 Dictated play for much of the game. Replaced by Carrick late on.

Anderson – 6 Tracked back well but didn’t have much influence on our attacking play.

Giggs – 8 At 37 years of age he’s still got it. Brilliant first time pass to set up the opening goal.

Rooney – 8 He was ni and out of the game and didn’t play particularly well, but the spectacular way in which he settled the match more than made up for it.

Rafael – 7 Excellent supporting Nani on the right wing. Nothing much to do in defence.

Ferdinand – 8 Majestic. The little Blackburn threw at him was mopped up with class and ease.

Vidic – 7 One mistake almost allowed Blackburn in early on, but a good game overall.

Evra – 7 Got forward at every opportunity. Seems to have developed a taste for scoring goals after his header last week. Didn’t score today but not for lack of trying.

Nani – 8 Scored a fabulous goal and had a hand in several others. Great to see him back on form after a lull in his performances of late.

Carrick – 8 Dictated the tempo of the game, albeit without much opposition.

Anderson – 8 His energy and driving runs through midfield galvanised the team today.

Park – 7 Seems to have found some form of late. Chipped in with his fifth goal of the season.

Rooney – 8 Didn’t manage to get himself on the score sheet but was magnificent on his Old Trafford return. It’s no coincidence that his return has coincided with our best performance of the season.

Berbatov – 10 i don’t think I’ve ever given a player a rating of 10 before but if ever a player deserved it it’s Berbatov. Five goals today from the Bulgarian! Magical stuff.

O’ Shea – 6 Some scary moments up against Weiss.

Smalling – 7 Nothing much to deal with.

Evans – 6 A lapse in concentration almost let Rangers sneak in.

Fabio – 7 Kept his flank quiet nd was our only outlet on the left wing as Giggs driften inside.

Nani – 6 Struggled to get going and was subbed off midway through the second half.

Scholes – 8 Dictated the tempo of the game until he was forced off wthrough injury. Not that Rangers made any attempt to win the battle in the middle of the pitch.

Carrick – 7 Kept things ticking over. Not much in terms of creative passing.

Giggs – 5 Should have been subbed off instead of Nani.

Rooney – 7 Plenty of energy and determination. Got into some good positions. Just lacking match sharpness. Coolly taken penalty.

Berbatov – 6 Some good build up play but not enough in front of goal. Badly in need of a goal to get out of his slump in form.

Subs:

Anderson – 7 Always looking for a forward pass. Looks as though he needs to lay off the pies though.

Obertan – 6 No real impact.

Hernandes – 6 Had one effort on goal. Should have one better.

Rafael – 7 Looks to have nailed down the right back position. Another good performance before injury forced him off.

Vidic – 8 Dominant alongside Ferdinand.

Ferdinand – 8 City never stood a chance with him and Vidic at their best.

Evra – 7 Still not back to his best, but is slowly improving. Went off injured.

Nani – 6 Not much to aim for up front, but plenty of effort and tracked back well.

Fletcher – 8 You can buy all he £20M midfielders you want, but you can’t buy a Fletcher.

Carrick – 8 Regaining form with every game. Excellent performance tonight.

Scholes – 8 Another masterclass from the Ginger Prince tonight. City couldn’t get near him.

Park – 6 Similar to opposite winger nan. Plenty of effort, but it didn’t quite come off tonight.

Berbatov – 7 Somewhat isolated up front, but held the ball up well and brought others into play.

O’Shea – 6 Kept Adam Johnson quiet.

Brown – 7 Got forward well while keeping his flank quiet.

Hernandez – 5 No real impact

Brown – 5 Struggled against Matt Jarvis again.

Ferdinand 6 – Slightly off the pace.

Vidic – 5 Terrrible at times. Needs to pull his finger out.

Evra – 7 Still not back to his best form, but showing signs of improvement, especially in an attacking sense.

Hargreaves – Played for four minutes. Limped off.

O’Shea – 3 He’s become so bad that he’s now actively working for the opposition, as proven by the fact that he tackled team mate Darren Fletcher to set up the Wolves counter attack that led to the goal.

Fletcher – 6 Excellent pass to set up Park for the opening goal. Drifted in and out of the game and was over-run at times.

Obertan – 6 Plenty of effort but not much end product from the Frenchman. Looks promising though.

Park – 7 Didn’t actually play all that well but when you chip in with two goals who really cares?

Hernandez – 6 Isolated up front with little service from midfield or the wings. Terrible dive to try and win a penalty and was rightly booked. Let’s hope he knocks that on the head.

Scholes – 7 We looked so much better when he came on. His ability to retain possession is what enabled us to turn up the pressureand go on to win the match in the end.

Macheda – 5 No real impact.

Bebe – 4 Terrible crossing. Terrible performance. The raw potential is there, it just needs to be finely tuned.

Rafael 7 – Caught out of position a couple of times, but is quickly making the right back position his own.

Smalling 7 – He’s like a younger Rio Ferdinand. Reads the game excellently and grows in stature with each appearance.

Vidic 6 – Sloppy mistakes could have cost united dearly. Luckily Michael Carrick bailed him out on one occasion and Bursaspor fluffed their other chances.

Evra 8 – Owned the left wing and created numerous chances after getting in behind the defence.

Fletcher 7 – Still to capture last season’s form, but slowly improving and scored a good goal.

Carrick 8 – Quickly finding his was back to full form. Excellent defensively and his brilliant first time pass to Darren Fletcher set up the first goal.

Scholes 9 – Completely dominant in the middle of the pitch. Dictated the pace of the game and created the third goal with a beautiful through pass to Bebe.

Nani 6 – Injured. Hopefully back for weekend.

Obertan 7 – Had a quiet game really, but sprang to life in the last 20 minutes as him and bebe caused problems. Scored a pile driver.

Berbatov 4 – His worst game of the season, but seemed to try and blame his team mates for his own failings. Could be a sign that he’s reverting to form after starting the season so well.

Subs:

Park 7 – Kept things ticking over in midfield with lots of energy. Good pass to set up Obertan’s goal.

Bebe 7 – Looks a very good prospect considering he was written off by the media before he’d kicked a ball.

Fabio 6 – No real time to make an impact.

Brown – 7 for the first half. 5 for the second half when he was run ragged by Matt Jarvis.

Smalling – 7 Composed on the ball and always looks for a forward pass.

Evans – 5 Poor run of form continues.

Fabio – 6 Got forward well and put in some good tackles at the back.

Gibson – 5 Promising start with some good passing to spread the play to the wingers, but disappeared as he so often does and was at fault for Wolves’ second goal.

Carrick – 6 Showed some of the incisive passing we’ve been missing recently, but was in and out of the game. Hopefully a sign that he’s on the road back to some good form.

Bebe – 7 Looked excellent on his first start for United. Up against a man mountain in Alekobi but brezzed past him on numerous occasions.

Park – 6 Absolute gash before his goal and then absolute gash after. Pushed off the ball with ease and has the first touch of a baby elephant. Tidy finish though.

Obertan – 6 Lots of positive runs from Obertan but sadly lacked an end product. Wasn’t helped by Macheda’s impression of Emile Heskey. So ugly and so fast it might be worth checking the odds on him running at http://www.betrescue.com

Macheda – 4 Looked out of sorts. Got into a couple of good positions but wasted it by either dithering or not passing to a team mate in a better position.

Neville – 6 I squirmed when he was brought on to deal with Matt Jarvis who was running Brown ragged, but he did surprisingly well. There’s life in the old dog yet.

Hernandez – 7 The boy looks like a class act. Very composed in front of goal. Scoring winning goals is becoming a habit.

Morrison – No time to make impact.

Rafael – 6 Lots of energy. Defended quite well but could have contributed more going forward.

Ferdinand – 7 Our defence looks so much better with him alongside Vidic. Another good game as he continues his comeback.

Vidic – 8 We needed a rock at the back today and Vidic was that rock.

O’Shea – 5 Sunderland got a lot of joy down his flank. Must do better.

Fletcher – 5 Continued his run of poor form with another disappointing display. needs to start stamping his authority on games like he did so frequently last season.

Scholes – 6 Marginally better than Fletcher but still not enough influence.

Anderson – 6 Brings much needed strength to the midfield but needs to work on his passing.

Nani – 7 Not at the level we’ve come to expect from him, but still our most potent threat.

Owen – 4 No service from midfield = no impact on the game

Berbatov – 6 Had a couple of good efforts.

Hernandez – 6 Linked up well with Berbatov.

Rafael – 7 Defended well and got forward when he could. Certainly an improvement on the recently disappointing O’Shea.

Ferdinand – 8 United’s rock at the back. Dominant in the air and on the ground. Read the game well and organised the defence.

Vidic – 7 Didn’t let much past him. Looked much better alongside Ferdinand than Evans. Bodes well for United’s defence.

Evra – 6 Outpaced on the wing at times and caught out of position on more than one occasion.

Fletcher – 4 Should have stayed at home. Sloppy in possession, passing was poor and didn’t contribute much to the defensive effort.

Carrick – 5 Promising signs soon fizzled out as he looked rusty on his return. Needs more games.

Anderson – 6 probably the better performing central midfielder out of the three, though he operated as a support striker for much of the first half. His incisive passing led to most of United’s few promising attacks in the game.

Nani – 6 Not his best game, but did cause problems for the left back at times. Great run down the wing to play Macheda through, who in turn set up Hernandez for the winning goal.

Park – 4 Terrible display from the Korean. Outmuscled, outpaced and generally outplayed. Consistently shoved off the ball, played poor passes and often ran straight into trouble.

Berbatov – 6 Struggled up front on his own but didn’t get much service from his team mates.

Subs

Chicarito – 7 hit the post with an early touch and scored the winning goal moments later. Played in by Macheda, took one touch and finished clinically into the bottom right corner. More of the same please.

Macheda – 7 Put himself about with lots of energy as usual, and made a good run and pass to set up the winner.

O’Shea - Not enough time to make an impact.

Brown – 7 Solid performance as he continues his comeback. Got forward well and showed good awareness to send Park through and set up Smalling for United’s second goal.

Smalling – 8 Growing in stature with every game. Dominant on the floor and reads the game very well. And contributed at the other end with a goal and an assist.

Ferdinand – 7 Still looks a little rusty after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but his leadership qualities will be a big boost to United’s back line.

Rafael – 6 Plenty of effort from the Brazilian but struggled to make an impact from the left back slot.

Park – 7 The usual lung busting energy from the Korean and a goal and an assist to his name as well.

Gibson – 7 Brilliant goal to trigger United’s come back, showing that he’s got more in his locker than a good long shot.

Anderson – 7 Still looks a little off the pace and a bit round on the waist, but his penetrative passing were a reminder of what we can expect when he’s back to full fitness.

Hernandez – 6 Playing from the right for much of the game he struggled to leave his mark on the game. Needs to play centrally if we’re to properly utilise his pace.

Macheda – 5 Only one real chance but should have done better from a free header at the near post.

Owen – 7 He did what he does best: – scored goals. Two goals today leaves Sir Alex with choices to make on Sunday. Berbatov and Rooney are likely to start against Bolton, but Owen’s goals tonight should move him ahead of Macheda in the pecking order.

Neville 7 - Got forward well and contributed to the attack, but his crossing was poor by his standards.

Ferdinand 8 - Nothing really to trouble him. Solid.

Vidic 7 - Needed to commit fouls on a couple of occasions due to poor positioning, but played well overall.

Evra 7 - Defended well and was his usual energetic self in attack. Some neat tricks got the crowd going.

Nani 8 - United’s main threat throughout the match. All of our good work went through him.

Fletcher 6 - Unusually quiet game from the Scot. Passing was off and didn’t really stamp his authority on the game.

Scholes 7 - Controlled the midfield with relative ease. Customary booking saw Sir Alex replace him with Gibson with 20 minutes left.

Giggs 6 - Took his goal well, but was poor overall.

Berbatov 6 - Did well to get in good opsitions, but his finishing has become abysmal, particularly with his head. Great assist for Giggs’ goal.

Rooney 7 - Creatively he was very good and his passing was superb. Never really got the opportunity to score and is unfortunate to lose out on the golden boot to Drogba.

Gibson 6 - Made a couple of good tackles.

Macheda 5 - No real impact.

Park 7 - Scored United’s 4th with a well taken header.

Rafael 6 – Lively performance from the young Brazilian, but he showed his inexperience when he abandoned his post, allowing Ledley king’s header from the corner to find the corner of the net.

Evans 7 - Filled in admirably for Rio Ferdinand.

Vidiv 8 - A rock at the heart of the defence. Dominated aerially as usual and made several key interceptions to keep Spurs out.

Evra 7 – Got forward well and won the first penalty after a good run into the box. Physically sick on the pitch in the second half, but battled through it and played well until he was eventually replaced by O’Shea.

Valencia 6 - Drifted in and out of the game and didn’t really threaten the Spurs back line. Defended well though when Rafael ventured forward.

Scholes 8 - Seems to be enjoying his new role as midfield enforcer. Also seems to have learnt to tackle as he won the ball back on numerous occasions.

Fletcher 7 - Nothing special from Fletcher, but kept possession well and kept the midfield ticking over.

Giggs 8 - In truth it wasn’t his best game, but two expertly taken penalties won us the game.

Nani 9 - Finally showing his class. A touch of brilliance to score the second goal, and ran through the entire Spurs defence to win the second penalty.

Berbatov 7 - Held the ball up well, brought others into play and was unfortunate not to score.

O’Shea 7 - Aaron Lennon’s late introduction was fruitless for Spurs as O’Shea had the measure of him.

Carrick 6 - No real impact.

Macheda 7 - Excellent pass to set up Nani’s goal.

Neville 7 - Struggled at times with the pace of Bellamy, but his desire, determination and tough tackling encapsulated the derby day spirit.

Evans 8 - Adebayor and Tevez rarely got a sniff of United’s goal.

Vidic 8 - Dominated aerially as usual and made key interceptions to keep City at bay.

Evra 8 - Caught out of position on a couple of occasions, but his attacking contribution was first class. Excellent cross to set up Scholes for the winner.

Valencia 8 - Caused havoc down City’s left flank and created numerous chances that really should have been buried. Giggs and Rooney being the chief culprits. Supported Neville in defence very well.

Gibson 6 - Kept things ticking over in midfield, but didn’t really stand out.

Scholes 9 - Dominated the midfield from the deep lying playmaker position. Dictated the pace of the game and popped up with the wining goal in the dying seconds. Showed why Sir Alex rewarded him with a new contract this week.

Fletcher 7 - Another batting performance from the fiery Scot, but couldn’t keep the limelight off the ginger prince.

Giggs 6 - Quite a poor performance from the Welshman. Sloppy in possession at times and should have done better with Valencia’s excellent cross.

Rooney 5 - Worked tirelessly alone up front, but often lost possession and missed a glorious chance to score the opener just before half time.

Rafael – 6 Excellent in the first half, but his naivety got himself sent off early in the second half and arguably cost us a place in the Champions League.

Ferdinand – 7 Mainly in control, but both he and Vidic went missing for Bayern’s opener, leaving Carrick to do their work. Badly.

Vidic – 7 Same as Ferdinand. Excellent besides one or two mistakes.

Evra – 3 There was a time when giving Evra anything less than a 7 was unheard of. However, his recent form has been shocking. I am sick to death of him constantly leaving his man with so much space on the wing, and strolling around the pitch like he could’t give a toss. I appreciate that he’s played an awful lot of football and O’Shea’s injury means he hasn’t been able to be rotated like others, but if he’s going to put in such terrible performances as he did tonight then we may as well put one of the reserves on who will at least TRY to defend. I’d rather suffer for a few games and get the real Evra back after he’s been rested.

Valencia – 6 Great in the first half. A passenger in the second. Needs to learn another trick because the ‘kick it and run’ routine has become tiresome.

Carrick – 4 Rubbish.

Fletcher – 7 Tried his best, but wasn’t helped by one of his fellow midfielders doing nothing.

Gibson – 8 Excellent display. He rewarded Sir Alex‘s faith with the opening goal and generally played well. Faded towards the end but that’s to be expected from a player who isn’t a regular and with a man down.

Nani – 9 Man of the match. Always a threat down the left wing and scored two excellent goals.

Rooney – 6 Played a part in the two opening goals. May as well have been sat on the floor for the remainder of his time on the pitch. I hope playing him hasn’t made his injury worse.

Neville – 5 Caught out of position too many times and crossing was mostly poor. Played well in the last ten minutes. Shame about the other 80.

Vidic – 7 Dominant aerially. Two headers in particular just ahead of Anelka and Drogba could have resulted in goals.

Evra – 6 Still not back to his best and probably won’t be unless he gets a rest. Looks knackered both mentally and physically and it’s affecting his concentration, leading to poor positioning.

Fletcher – 6 Terrible in the first half. Much better in the second as United upped the tempo.

Scholes – 4 I’ve never sen him give the ball away at such alarming consistency.

Park – 5 Ermm. He was on the pitch, I guess.

Giggs – 5 Similar to Scholes, gave the ball away far too often. I’m not sure how wise it is to play them so often with their aging legs.

Berbatov – 6 Got into some good positions in the second half, but needs to be far more clinical in front of goal.

Nani – 7 Excellent. Provided a threat every time he got the ball. Should have started.

Macheda – 6 Not really involved much, but got lucky with the goal as it just ricocheted off him into the net.

Neville – 5 Over run by Ribery on a number of occasions. Nani saved his bacon. Needless handball gave Bayern the free kick they equalized from.

Ferdinand – 7 Did surprisingly well considering the midfield were offering very little protection.

Vidic – 7 Played well. Had to cover for Evra far too often.

Evra – 5 Left his brain and positional sense at home tonight. Very poor game. At fault for Bayern’s winner.

Match report: Bayern 2 – 1 United

Carrick – 5 Not at the races.

Fletcher – 5 Along with his midfield partners, just not up to scratch.

Scholes – 5 Aside from a karate kick early in the game, didn’t have much impact.

Nani – 6 One of our better performers on the night, but didn’t get much service from an under-performing midfield.

Park – 6 Defensively sound, but offered little in attack.

Rooney – 6 Scored the opener, but aside from that he got very little service despite running his socks off throughout.

Neville – 7 Kept his flank relatively free of danger and got forward whenever he could to support Valencia. Booed very time he touched the ball by the 6 fingered Bolton fans. Good ol’ Nev.

Evans – 7 Filled in for Rio Ferdinand admirably. Continued his excellent partnership with Vidic.

Vidic – 8 Dominant aerially and made two or three excellent last ditch tackles to keep Bolton out. A beast of a defender.

Evra – 7 Similar to Neville. His flank was pretty quiet for the most part and he supported Nani well.

Valencia – 7 It wasn’t his best game from an attacking point of view, but he made up for it with his efforts by tracking back and helping win possession again.

Fletcher – 7 Did what we’ve all come to expect from Fletcher. Runs around the pitch scaring opposing players into giving him the ball. Also got forward well on a couple of occasions and was unlucky not to score.

Scholes – 7 Given free reign to do what he wanted in the middle, under the protection of Fletcher. Plenty of time on the ball allowed him to dictate the tempo of the game.

Nani – 8 Another excellent display from the Portugueser who continues to rise in stature. The defensive side of his game has improved drastically, and he also bagged himself two assists. Still has an evil head.

Giggs – 7 Playing just behind Berbatov, he continually dropped deep and pulled Bolton’s defenders out of position, allowing Berbatov, Nani and Valencia to take advantage of the gaps and cause havoc.

Berbatov – 8 I must admit I’m always skeptical about his ability to play as a lone frontman, but he was excellent today. He contributed well to the build up of our attacks and was in the right place at the right time to finish two of them off.

Gibson – 7 Scored 90 seconds after coming on.

Macheda – 6 Lively.

Neville – 7 Kept maxi quiet throughout. Got forward quite well, but his final delivery was often lacking.

Ferdinand – 7 Kept Torres quiet for the majority of the game. Should have been tighter to Torres for the goal.

Vidic – 7- No real worries for him today. Torres got past him once but on the whole he did very well. Managed to avoid a 4th consecutive red card against Liverpool.

Evra – 6 Kept his wing quiet. Passing was off at times and didn’t get forward as well as he usually does.

Valencia – 8 Drifted in and out of the game, but when he was in it he was brilliant Went past Insua with ease at times. Won the penalty.

Fletcher – 7 Battled hard in midfield and kept the pressure on his opponents.

Carrick – 6 Sloppy passing at times.

Park – 7 Gave the ball away quite a lot. Outmuscled on several occasions and poor control on others. Scored the winner though. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Nani – 6 Quiet game for the Portuguese winger. Never really got into it. Defended well though.

Rooney – 6 Can’t fault his work rate, but it didn’t really happen for him today. Misplaced passes lost us possession too often. Possibly trying too hard. poor penalty but showed good instincts to tap in the rebound.

Neville – 7 Needed Fletcher to cover for him at times. Got into some good positions, crossing often let him down, but the one for Rooney’s opening goal was inch perfect.

Ferdinand – 8 Never gave the Milan strikers a sniff of goal. A rock at the back.

Vidic – 7 Played well alongside Rio. Dominated aerially.

Evra – 7 Somewhat subdued compared to his usual performances, but still got forward well and didn’t have too much to worry him at the back. Looks tired.

Valencia – 7 A constant threat down the right wing.

Fletcher – 8 Dominated the midfield as well as covering for Neville against Ronaldinho.

Scholes – 7 The aging Milan midfield allowed him to dictate the pace of the game.

Nani – 6 not his best game. Struggled in the first half. Much better in the second half. his pass to setup Rooney’s second goal was exquisite.

Park – 7 Chased Milan’s players all game. Ran his socks off for the cause and scored a goal too.

Rooney – 8 unstoppable at the moment. Two goals take his tally to 30 for the season. Can he match Ronaldo’s 42?

Neville – 7 One of his better performances recently. West Ham’s reluctance to attack left Neville free to get forward and he did, to good effect.

Brown – 7 Nothing to trouble him.

Vidic – 7 Dominant aerially, but like Brown was never really troubled.

Evra – 6 Still looks tired and didn’t contribute an awful lot going forward, but put in some good tackles to keep West Ham quiet down his flank.

Valencia – 8 A constant threat down the right wing. His pace was too much for the poor West Ham defence and he set up both of Rooney’s goals.

Gibson – 7 Threatened to open the scoring on several occasions in the first half and passed the ball well. Drifted out of the game towards the end.

Scholes – 7 It was all too easy for him. He was given so much time on the ball that he was able to dictate the tempo of the game.

Anderson – 5 Subbed of early on with an injury. Didn’t look good.

Berbatov – 7 Involved in a lot of the build up play and takes a huge slice of credit for both of Rooney’s goals. He fed Valencia who in turn fed Rooney.

Rooney – 9 Man of the match. He’s making this goalscoring lark look easy. Another two headed goals from the lad and a dominating display to match.

Park – 7 Came on to good effect for the injured Anderson. Kept possession well and put in some good tackles to win it back.

Owen – 6 Scored within moments of coming on. Not much else to report.

Diouf – 5 No impact.

Neville – 5 Showed that his crossing ability is still fantastic, but his defensive ability leaves a lot to be desired. Completely flat footed when Donovan threaded the ball through to Pienaar to setup Dan Gosling for the second goal.

Brown – 6 Dealt with most things that came his way on the ground, but struggled aerially when the long balls were pumped up to Saha.

Evans – 5 Looks like a completely average defender when he doesn’t have the experience of Ferdinand or Vidic beside him. Needs to get back to basics; don’t let the ball bounce and if in doubt boot it out.

Evra – 6 Looks tired. Hasn’t got forward as well recently and appears sluggish when tracking back.

Valencia – 6 His pace caused problems for Leighton Baines early on, but his delivery was often poor, apart from his low cross for the opening goal.

Fletcher – 6 Passing was poor and he wasn’t his usual domineering self. Left chasing shadows at times.

Carrick – 6 Similar to Fletcher. Didn’t take hold of the game and influence it like he should be doing. Looks far more at home in a 3 man midfield these days.

Berbatov 6 – Expertly taken goal and plenty of possession, but he slowed the game down too much and had little impact after scoring.

Rooney – 5 A game to forget for the ex Evertonian.

Rafael – 5 Still a lot to learn. Lost possession cheaply and then was out of position for the Seedorf goal. We were then on the back foot for the remainder of a game when we should have been cruising.

Evans – 6 Terrible in the first half. Got his act together after a rollocking from Ferguson.

Rio – 7 Played well, despite Evans’ mistakes.

Evra – 6 Not at his best, but still contributed well to the attack. Undone by Pato on a few occasions.

Carrick – 7 Didn’t start well, but pulled himself together and dominated the midfield in the second half alongside Fletcher.

Fletcher – 8 Dominant performance from Fletch. Didn’t give the Milan midfield  time to breathe.

Scholes – 6 Very sloppy in the first half. Very lucky goal that deflected off his standing leg.

Park – 5 I still don’t believe he’s a real footballer.

Nani – 6 Not his best game. Crossing was poor and he was wasteful in possession. Tracked back well to help out Rafael.

Rooney – 9 Isolated in the first half, but came alive in the second and dominated milan’s back line single handedly. Two excellent headers to win the game from good crosses by Valencia and Fletcher.

Rafael – 6 - Tormented by Arshavin early on, but settled after that.

Brown – 7 - Excellent. Dominated aerially and restricted Arsenal to mostly long shots.

Evans – 7 - Same as his partner Brown. Arsenal didn’t get a sniff of goal until a late flurry of pressure when they fluked a consolation goal.

Evra – 6 - Not at his brilliant best in the first half, but recovered well in the second.

Nani – 9 - Man of the match. Terrorized Clichy on the right wing and created both goals in the first half. It’s debatable whether the first goal is how or and own goal, but his brilliance to get past the two defenders near the corner flag is not in doubt.

Carrick – 7 - A couple of stray passes early on, but dominated the midfield thereafter.

Scholes – 7 - Easy day for him. Given plenty of time on the ball by Arsenal and was allowed to spray passes all over the pitch.

Fletcher – 7 - Chased and harassed Arsenal’s midfielders all game. Didn’t let them dwell on the ball for a second.

Park – 6 - In and out of the game. Mostly out. Good finish for his goal, but did little else.

Rooney – 8 - Led the line brilliantly. Slightly profligate in front of goal, but still got himself on the score sheet.

Rafael – 6 - Struggled at times against the impressive Bellamy. Needs to learn to stay calm and develop his footballing brain.

Ferdinand – 7 - Could have done better to keep Tevez out, but other than that he was very impressive. Good to have his experience back in central defence.

Evans – 7 - As against hull, looked much better alongside Ferdinand than he does against Brown.

Evra – 8 - Another fantastic performance from the Frenchman. Up and down the left flank all night.

Nani – 7 - another impressive performance from Nani as he continues his return from injury. A constant thorn in City’s backside, but not quite as impressive as against Hull.

Carrick – 7 - Controlled the midfield with his two partners Scholes and Fletcher. Some errant passes, but made up for it with the second goal.

Fletcher – 7 - Another combative display from the fiery Scot. Set up Carrick’s goal after good work from Nani sent him into the penalty box.

Scholes – 8 - Still our best midfielder on his day. Dominated the middle of the park with ease. Scored the opener.

Giggs – 8 - Started slowly but became an important player in the second half. Opened City up on several occasions and if not for profligate finishing from others we’d have sewn the tie up much earlier.

Rooney – 9 - Excellent performance. His pin point pass sent Giggs through to set up a goal, and he popped up in injury time to score the winner and break City’s hearts. Tevez who?

Rafael – 6 - Relatively quiet game. Nothing much to trouble his flank, but could have contributed more to the attack.

Ferdinand – 7 - A rock in the centre of defence. Brought a sense of calm that’s been missing recently. (Except when swinging for Craig Fagan)

Evans – 7 – Looks much better alongside Ferdinand.

Evra – 7 - Brilliant as always. Defended well and contributed to attacks.

Nani – 9 - Man of the match if not for the amazing Rooney. One ofUnited’s most dangerous players.

Fletcher – 7 – Controlled the midfield and distributed the ball well.

Scholes – 8 - Dominated the middle of the park. Started most of our attacks by spreading the ball wide to Nani and Park.

Park – 6 - Negligible contribution from Park. Simply not good enough.

Owen -7 - Overall play was very good. build up play was neat and tidy. Should have scored though.

Rooney – 10 – Four goals. Enough said.

Subs:

Berbatov – 6 - Grabbed an assist for Rooney’s 4th goal.

Gibson – 5 - Not his best cameo appearance.

Fabio – 5 - No impact.

Rafael – 5 - Defensive naivety let him down again. It was never a penalty though.

Brown – 6 - Doesn’t look like he’s at his best at the moment. Needs to pull his socks up.

Evans – 6 - Shines brighter when played alongside Ferdinand or Vidic.

Evra – 8 - Excellent as usual. Done for pace by SWP once but other than that he was fantastic.

Valencia – 7 - Created the first goal and could have created more. Always seems to find space for himself.

Carrick – 6 - Despite us dominating possession, Carrick did nothing to open up City’s defence.

Fletcher – 7 - Usual energetic performance. Let down by his midfield partners.

Anderson – 5 - Largely anonymous throughout.

Giggs – 6 - Played well in the first half, but didn’t get into his rhythm in the second.

Rooney – 7 - Started slowly and didn’t do much in the first half. Came to life when Owen came on and created space for him.

Subs:

Owen – 7 - Brought Rooney to life and actually caused City’s defence to panic. Should have started.

Diouf – 5 - Had one good chance to equalize but fluffed his lines and headed wide.

Scholes – 5 - No real impact.

Referee – 0 - Couldn’t have been any worse if he  was wearing a City shirt and singing Blue moon.

Neville -6 - Caught out of position a few times and short of pace, but also used his experience well on other occasions. A mixed afternoon for Gaz.

Brown – 6 - Not his best game. Run ragged at times.

Evans – 6 - Similar to Evans, positionally poor.

Evra – 7 - Excellent as usual. Does he ever have a bad game?

Valencia – 8 - Probably the best player on the pitch. End product wasn’t always the best, but he was a constant danger down the right wing.

Carrick – 6 - He was a passenger throughout. Needs to lift his form for the latter half of the season.

Scholes – 6 - Spread the play to the wings well, but not many penetrating balls that we’re used to.

Nani – 8 - Excellent return for Nani. A couple of good shots and plenty of quality crosses into the box. If only we had a striker that could head the ball.

Rooney – 6 - Passing and shooting were off the radar today. His goal disguises a poor performance.

Berbatov – 7 - Some nice touches and took his goal very well.

Subs:

Anderson – 6 - Added energy to the midfield.

Owen – 5 - No real impact.

Diouf – 7 – A goal on his debut. What more can you ask for? Looked lively throughout his cameo and took up good positions and made good runs.

Rafael – 6 - Negligible contribution to the attack and caught out of position at times.

Brown – 5 - Struggled aerially at times against both Jerome and Benitez.

Evans – 5 - Passing was poor and his failed clearance fell to Jerome to score the opener.

Evra – 7 - Kept his flank relatively quiet while getting forward very well. We need more players putting in the same effort as the stand in captain.

Fletcher – 4 - Passing was poor, tackling was worse. Even without the sending off he was a 5 at best. Stupid decision to leave his foot in and earn himself a 2nd booking.

Scholes – 5 - Passing was off. Dwelled on the ball too long at times and put himself under pressure unnecessarily.

Carrick – 5 - The game seemed to pass him by. He didn’t do an awful lot wrong when in possession, but he wasn’t in possession often enough to make an impact on the game.

Valencia – 6 - Looked dangerous at times on the right wing, but his first touch and final ball often let him down. not one of his best games in a United shirt.

Rooney – 5 - Didn’t get any service up front and struggled to do much when he did get the ball. Doesn’t seem to enjoy the lone striker role.

Park – 5 – Doesn’t even do a good impersonation of a footballer.

Subs

Diouf – 5 - No impact.

Giggs – 6 - Tried his best, but didn’t create much.

De Laet – 5 – Good going forward, but was caught out in defence several times.

Fletcher – 5 - Beaten in the air for the second goal. Doesn’t help that he’s being played out of position.

Carrick – 6 - Did okay. Could have closed down Danny Murphy to prevent the opener.

Evra – 6 - Didn’t have many options down the left with the midfield and attack playing so badly.

Valencia – 5 - Very poor. Never has a United player been so reliant on one foot.

Scholes – 3 - Hard to fathom why Sir Alex kept faith with him beyond half time. One of his worst games in a United shirt.

Gibson – 5 - Some good early touches, but after that he was ineffective. Shoots too often.

Anderson – 5 - Gave the ball away too much. Too many Hollywood passes that didn’t come off.

Owen – 5 - Fed off scraps and died of hunger.
Rooney – 5 - Terrible.

Subs

Fabio – 6 - Got forward well.

Berbatov – 5 - Ineffective.

Welbeck – 5 - No impact.

De Laet – 7 – Never looked in trouble in defence and contributed well to the attack.

Carrick – 6 – Not the most troubling of days for Carrick as Wolves offered nothing in attack.

Vidic – 7 - Got himself on the scoresheet and defended as well as you’d expect against a poor attack.

Evra – 7 – Easy day out for the Frenchman, who operated much like a second winger for most of the 90 minutes.

Valencia – 6 – Scored a well taken goal, but was hardly involved before or after.

Gibson – 6 - made a claim to be United’s permanent corner taker with some excellent deliveries, including the one that set up Vidic’s goal. Shooting was off though.

Scholes – 7 - Dominated the midfield with consummate ease.

Obertan – 6 – Started well, but faded quite quickly. Shows real promise if he can be consistent.

Rooney – 6 - Poor finishing meant he missed a probably hat trick of what should be easy chances for a player of his ability. Hit the back of the net from the penalty spot.

Berbatov – 5 - Barely involved. Just one moment of genius with his flick to set up Valencia’s goal.

Fletcher – 5 - Caught for pace by Ashley Young to allow him to make the cross for goal. Poor positional play a couple of times, though that’s to be expected for a midfielder playing out of position. Crossing was poor.

Brown – 6 - Dealt with most things that came his way today, both on the floor and in the air, but crucially allowed Agbonlahor to creep in front of him at the front post to nod in Young’s cross.

Vidic – 6 - Poor passing at times, gave away possession and put Kuszczac under unnecessary pressure. Struggled to contain the pacy Agbonlahor.

Evra – 8 - United’s best attacker today. Contributed massively to the attack and defended very well. Man of the match.

Valencia – 6 – His refusal to use his left foot meant he was forced to give up a shooting opportunity in the first half inside the box. Found himself in good positions but failed to deliver the killer ball.

Anderson – 5 - Lots of energy and determination, but not enough quality.

Carrick – 6 – Too much sideways passing and when he did attempt to move it forward he often found a white shirt.

Giggs – 5 - Unusually poor performance. Didn’t click with Rooney today, subbed at half time.

Park – 5 - All workrate, no end product. Passing, crossing and everything else that requires technical ability were beyond Park today.

Rooney – 5 - Arguably his worst performance of the season. His passing and shooting were terrible and he shamefully dived to try and win a penalty early in the game. His finest moments were in defence, which says a lot about how poor he was in the final third.

Subs

Owen – 5 - Ineffective.

Gibson – 6 - Had some good efforts on goal, but struggled to find space with Villa employing “park the bus” tactics.

Berbatov – 5 - No impact.

Park – 6 – Struggled at times out of position and caught short of pace more than once.

Fletcher – 6 - Made some key tackles to keep Edin Dzeko quiet for most of the game. Caught out of position for the Wolfsburg goal.

Carrick – 7 - Lucky not to have given away a penalty in the first half, but generally did well in a makeshift back four.

Evra – 8 - Defended excellently and got forward well. Enjoyed his role as captain tonight.

Scholes – 8 - Controlled the midfield for large parts of the game. Kept possession well.

Gibson – 6 - Not as influential as his last few performances and left his shooting boots at home.

Anderson – 7 - Very industrious performance. Passed well. Tackled well.

Nani – 6 - An indifferent game for Nani. Frustrating at times, but didn’t have much support. Great cross to allow Owen to open the scoring.

Welbeck – 7 - Played some good one touch football with Owen up front and was involved in a lot of the build up play. Held the ball up well and brought others into the game

Owen – 9 - Four shots, three on target, three goals. You can’t ask for more than that from a centre forward. Back to his best tonight.

Subs

Valencia – 5 - No real impact.

Obertan – 7 - Threatened constantly and really stretched the Wolfsburg back four. Created Owen’s second goal with a piece of brilliant skill.

Fletcher – 7 - Played as well at right back as he does in midfield. Defended brilliantly. Could have contributed more to the attack.

Neville – 5 - Wasn’t troubled much before a groin injury saw him take an early bath.

Brown – 7 - Nothing to trouble Brown in the air or on the ground today.

Evra – 7 - Defended well and got forward whenever he could. He came within inches of scoring late on.

Valencia – 7 - Quiet game until midway through the second half when he killed the game off with a goal and an assist.

Gibson – 7 - Another superb strike from Gibson and a controlled performance in midfield.

Scholes – 7 - Seems to have overcome the worries over his form. A good performance and volleyed in the opening goal to set United on their way.

Anderson - 7 – A typical energetic performance from the Brazilian and set up Valencia’s goal.

Giggs – 8 – Brilliant first half and a more subdued but still great second half.

Rooney – 6 - Quiet afternoon from Rooney, but still managed to get himself on the scoresheet.

Carrick – 7 - Stepped in at centre half for the injured Gary Neville and didn’t look out of place.

Berbatov – 5 Nothing special.

Owen – 5 - Same as Berbatov, no real impact.

Neville – 6 – Did nothing badly wrong, but didn’t contribute much to the attack. Found to be short of pace by Lennon a couple of times.

Brown – 7 - Dominating aerial performance by Brown who is filling in very well for Ferdinand.

Vidic – 8 - Excellent! Made a number of perfect tackles to thwart Tottenham attacks and commanded the back line well.

De Laet – 7 On top of his defensive duties and got forward whenever he could. Made some penetrating runs with the ball.

Obertan – 6 - Not quite as impressive as his early appearances for United.

Gibson – 8 Two fantastic goals from outside the box. The second in particular was very well taken, leaving the ‘keeper no chance.

Anderson – 8 - Put himself all over the pitch, tackling, hustling, passing and generally dominating the midfield.

Park- 5 - Contributed very little except work-rate.

Berbatov – 6 - Quiet day for the Bulgarian coming back from injury. Clearly isn’t match fit yet.

Welbeck – 7 - Held the ball up well and played some good one touch football. Needs to work on his end product in the final third though.

Neville – 6 - Competent defending. Supported Valencia. Some good crosses.

Brown – 6 - Solid. Long passing. Decent blocks. Late challenges. Did his job fairly well despite Pompey pressure.

Vidic – 6 - Brute. Hard but careless tackling. Interceptions. Harsh pen. Fought bravely for the ball in every challenge.

Evra – 6 - Interceptor. Started cautiously in defence. Shot wide. Caught out of position. Found freedom late on.

Fletcher – 7 - Fiery. Shot blocked. Won possession constantly. Found his passing range. Cross blocked. 100% effort.

Scholes – 7 – Shootin’ Blanks. Clever one touch and cross field passing. Some promising chances. Blocked shots. Tackling well.

Carrick – 6 - Capable. Crisp passing. Won back possession. Clean tackles. Didn’t fully exert his influence.

Valencia – 7 - Livewire Dangerous crosses. Electric pace. Effective link up play. Showed strength. One footed miss. Good effort but no end product.

Rooney – 7 - Hat Trick Hero Lost marker at will. Found goal threat. Worked hard for his rewards. Won pen. Clinical with chances.

Giggs – 8 - Phoenix Awakened from dead. Great touch and movement. Creative passing. Improved delivery. Assisted Rooney. Won pen. Scored free kick.

Neville – 7 - Did the best he could.
Brown – 7 - Defended well. Good header at the end.
Vidic – 8 - Largely monstrous. Intercepted, headed, tackled.
Rafael – 6 - Got forward fairly well but at fault for goal. Out of position, though.

Obertan – 8 - Livewire. Good performance.
Gibson – 8 - Got forward well in the first half. Faded in the second, when he was having to do Anderson‘s work, too.
Anderson – 6 - Another poor performance. Brilliant in a midfield three; woeful in a midfield two.
Park – 7 - Still not entirely sure why he played. Didn’t do anything wrong, mind.

Welbeck – 6 - Some nice link up play but seemed to lack composure or class when under pressure near their goal.
Macheda – 6 - Like Welbeck, but with slightly more composure and slightly less class. Forced a great save.

Subs

Owen – 5 - Did he actually play? One pass was all he contributed the entire time he was on.
Carrick – 6 - Came on for Gibson to create more than the Irishman. Didn’t.
Evra – 8 - Brilliant. Maybe could have had a penalty, though it probably would have been soft. Our best attacking outlet late on.

Evra – 8.5 – Immense performance. One of the main attacking threats and defensively sound.

Giggs – 6. – Poor performance overall, but set up Carrick for the second goal.
Fletcher – 8.5 – Great goal, great game, great player.
Carrick – 8 – Dominated midfield and broke up attacks.
Valencia – 9 – Baines had no chance against Valencia. Chipped in with another goal and generally ran riot on the right wing.

Owen – 7 – Drifted in and out but played well generally.
Rooney – 6.5 – Started well, but this will be a day to forget for Rooney.

O’Shea – 7 – Solid enough defensively, but didn’t contribute much to the attack.

Evans – 8 – Excellent performance today. United didn’t miss Ferdinand or Vidic with this lad at the back.

Brown – 8 – Played very well alongside Evans. Dominated aerially and kept Drogba quiet.

Evra – 7 – Caught out defensively a few times, passing was poor in the first half, but improved considerably in the second half.

Valencia – 6 – Kept Ashley Cole quiet all game, but didn’t offer enough in attack. Wasted a golden opportunity late on.

Fletcher – 8 – Didn’t give Chelsea a second to breathe. Doesn’t get the credit he deserves, particularly from poor referees.

Carrick – 8 – Kept possession well, put in some good tackles and had a few decent efforts on goal.

Anderson – 9 – Played very well, dominated the middle of the park and played some brilliant passes. Could have scored if Rooney had made the right decision in the second half.

Giggs – 5 – Poor show by his own standards. Nothing went right for the Welshman today.

Rooney – 6 – It’s never easy playing up front on your own, especially against Chelsea, but he didn’t make it any easier for himself with his bad touches, poor passing, awful decision making and general all round disappointing performance. Two good shots in the second half were all he could muster.

Neville 6 - Very good going forward, put in a lot of quality crosses. Solid in defence.

Evans 5 - Very uncertain without Rio or Vidic to partner him. Will have to vastly improve if he’s to keep Chelsea at bay this weekend.

Brown 5 - Dodgy partnership with Evans led to the defence being unlocked several times.

Fabio 5 - Struggled to contain Krasic and was caught out of position frequently.

Valencia 6 - Scored the vital 3rd goal, but still looks very one dimensional.

Fletcher 6 - Good game from the Scot, who looked keen to impress on his return. Denied a stonewall penalty and rdicuously booked for diving.

Scholes 7 - Great headed goal, sprayed passes all over the pitch and was only denied more goals by the excellent Akinfeev.

Nani 5 - Didn’t get much support from Fabio and struggled to make an impact on the game.

Macheda 6 - Good Champions League debut from the youngster. Had some good efforts and hit the post late on.

Owen 6 - Showed his goal poaching instincts to draw United level in the first half, but could and should have had a hat trick.

Subs:

Rooney 6 - Lifted the crowd and helped the team battle back from 3-1 down.

Evra 6 - Didn’t have much defending to do, but got forward well to spupport the attack.

Obertan 6 - Good cameo from the frenchman. Looks to have real potential.

O’Shea 6 - Excellent tackle to deny Diouf early on, but his passing often let him down when supporting Valencia in attack.

Brown 7 - Dominant display from Brown. Will be hoping to stay fit and get a run in the team now.

Evans 7 - Makes the losses of Vidic and Ferdinand unnoticeable.

Evra 8 - Excellent display from the Frenchman who was allowed to join in attack after attack. Set up Berbatov’s goal

Valencia 7 - Given a tough time by Blackburn left back Givet, but put in some good crosses which the forwards should have done better with.

Carrick 7 - Wasn’t at his passing best, but put in some good tackles and controlled the midfield.

Anderson 7 - Harassed the Blackburn midfielders and dominated the centre of the park.

Nani 7 - Always looked a threat going forward in the first half, but trailed off in the second half.

Rooney 7 - Not the best performance from Rooney who was rarely in the game, but got himself on the scoresheet to secure the points.

Berbatov 8 - Profligate finishing in the first half, but made up for it in the second with some touches of class and an excellently taken volleyed goal.

Owen 6 - Should have scored.

Obertan 6 - Missed an easy chance towards the end to ruin what was otherwise a promising league debut.

Neville 5 - A reckless challenge in the 2nd half meant an early bath for the captain.

Brown 6 – A decent 90 minutes from Brown, who will be hoping to fight for a regular starting place again soon. Wasn’t as dominant in the air as he should have been, but the time on the pitch will have done him good.

Evans 6 - Similar to Wes, didn’t dominate aerially, but did well to cover for Fabio when he ventured forward.

Fabio 6 – Not his best game in a United shirt. Abandoned his defensive duties more than once, and will have to find the right balance in future.

Obertan 7 - Excellent debut from the Frenchman. Always looked threatening and worked hard for the team by tracking back and breaking up attacks. Early signs are very promising.

Anderson 7 - Dominant in midfield. Dictated the tempo of the game with incisive passing.

Rafael 7 - Did well in midfield, despite never playing there before. Will hope to get back to his usual position for the next game though.

Welbeck 8 - Man of the match. Played out of position on the wing but always looked dangerous. His 6th minute header gave us an early lead.

Owen 7 - Drifted in and out of the game, then took his goal brilliantly. Shrugged off one challenge, drifted past another player and finished clinically into the far corner.

Macheda 6 - Worked ard and had a few good moments, but the game seemed to pass him by.
