Once, twice, three times losers: City 0 – 1 United

Manchester United left it late once again to prove that they’re still the undisputed Kings of Manchester.

A Paul Scholes header with just 10 seconds left on the clock was the decisive goal that sealed the win and kept the pressure on Chelsea at the top of the league.

It was the away side that started brightly, forcing City to retreat into their own third for the opening exchanges, with City not entering United’s half until the 6th minute.

Fergie gets his tactics wrong as United lose in Munich

After going 1-0 through Wayne Rooney inside the first minute; you’d be forgiven for thinking United would go on to win the game. The tactics would be fairly simple: Allow Bayern to press forward and then hit them on the break. The deficit would force them to throw men forward and the likes of Nani, Park and Rooney could exploit the gaps left at the back as Bayern pushed for an equalizer.

Report: Manchester United 2- 1 Liverpool

Manchester United ran out deserved winners against Liverpool at Old Trafford as they look to keep the pressure on Chelsea in the title race.

After conceding the first goal, United came back well and thoroughly deserved the 3 points after outplaying Liverpool for much of the game.

Liverpool had opened the scoring through Fernando Torres, but goals from Wayne Rooney and Ji Sung Park sealed the win for United.

Report: Everton 3 – 1 Manchester United

Everton emerged as deserved winners at Goodison Park today in a match Manchester United needed at least a point from if they were to put pressure on Chelsea at the top of the league.

The visitors opened the scoring through Dimitar Berbatov early on, but Diniyar Bilayetdinov equalized minutes later and second half goals from substitutes Dan Gosling and Jack Rodell put the match beyond United.

The United fans started in good voice, before being drowned out by Everton fans claiming for every decision (presumably perfecting this technique at the dole office) and booing every decision that went against them. That’s my only criticism of Everton today though as on the pitch they were fantastic and were good value for their win.

Men against Boys as United brush Arsenal aside

It was men against boys again today as Manchester United gave Arsenal a lesson in ruthless attacking football at the Emirates stadium.

Goals from Nani (or was it an Almunia OG?), Wayne Rooney and Park Ji Sung silenced Arsenal until Thomas Vermaelen’s deflected shot forced a late flurry of pressure on United’s back line, but by then it was too late.

United started brightest, led mainly by in form winger Nani. Arsenal were quick on the counter attack, but Arshavin was disappointing in front of goal and failed to test Van der Sar once.

Report: Manchester City 2 – 1 Manchester United

I imagine most Manchester united fans, like me, will be feeling a massive sense of injustice this morning, but should we really be worried by the referee aided decision last night? I’m not so sure.

City played nothing like a side that’s capable of coming to Old Trafford and beating us or even leaving with a draw. They were camped in their own half for much of the game, while United dominated possession and mounted attack after attack. One of those attacks paid off when Ryan Giggs tapped in the deflection after a good save from Rooney’s near post effort and united were looking very much in control of the game. City had nothing to offer.

Things changed however, when the shambolic referee decided to award City a penalty for a foul that was clearly outside the box. It begs the question, what prompted Merseyside born Mike Dean to make one of the worst decisions of his error laden career?

City + Mike Dean 2 – 1 United

At the risk of sounding awfully Scouse, the referees are looking like they’re increasingly against us this season, ever since Sir Alex Ferguson criticized Alan Wiley and the referees union declared war on Sir Alex.

Now I’m not into conspiracy theories. I’ve always been of the opinion that bad decisions happen to every team sporadically throughout the season. And while decisions don’t ever even themselves out like the old wives tale suggests , they do seem to happen to most teams every now and again.

This season has been something different though. Since Fergie had a go at Wiley I can remember very few decisions that have gone in our favour, and many that have gone against us, not least two key decisions tonight.

Report: Fulham 3 – 0 Manchester United

Manchester United lost more ground in their race for the title today after slumping to a 3-0 away defeat to Fulham.

The Champions slipped to their 5th league defeat of the season in a somewhat pedestrian performance by the reds, who never really got out of 2nd gear.

United will point to their injury worries as a contributing factor to the loss, and they’ll have a point. Any team with Vidic, Ferdinand, Neville, Brown, Evans, O’Shea and Rafael missing from the defence would eventually come up against a side that would expose the weaknesses of the makeshift replacements. Unluckily for United, that side happened to be Fulham.

Report: Manchester United 3 – 0 Wolves

Manchester United beat Wolves 3-0 last night to draw level on points with Chelsea at the top of the table and it couldn’t have been easier.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy had all but conceded defeat before the match had started, resting ten of his first team players ahead of the weekend clash with Burnley.

Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was the only survivor of the team that beat Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

United got out of the traps early and Wayne Rooney tested Hahnemann with a couple of good efforts, but it wasn’t as easy as it should have been for United.

Report: Manchester United 0 – 1 Aston Villa

Manchester United lost at home for the first time in the Premier League this season as Aston Villa claimed all 3 points at Old Trafford.

Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the only goal of the game to frustrate the champions on home soil. The closest United came was when Wayne Rooney smashed the cross bar in the first half.

United had the chance to draw level with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League after the blues drew 3-3 with Everton earlier in the afternoon, but the defeat now sees United lying 3 points adrift in the race for the title.
