Carrick happy to play in defence
After performing so well against West Ham, Michael Carrick will be more than happy to fill in at centre half again if United’s defensive crisis hasn’t subsided.
The midfielder played 56 minutes in defence after coming on for the injured Gary Neville and helped the team keep a clean sheet.
While he knows he’s never going to be a regular defender, he believes playing in that role will help the defensive side of his game when he returns to his natural position.
“I’m not exactly the next Rio Ferdinand but it was one of those days,” Carrick told Sky Sports.
“The first time I have ever played there in my life was at this level, but the lads made it easier by playing the way that they did.
“I really enjoyed it. It’s different surroundings and a whole different perspective on the game.
“You’re not involved as much as when you’re in midfield, but maybe it will help with my defending when I’m back in midfield.”
