Berbatov to make amends against Everton
Dimitar Berbatov will be out to exorcise his demons tomorrow as Manchester United face Everton at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United striker’s last appearance against the Merseyside club was in the FA Cup semi final last season. The Bulgarian missed a crucial penalty from which United never recovered, and Everton progressed to the final.
The penalty led to widespread criticism of Berbatov for his passive style and laid back approach to the game.
Tomorrow will be the perfect opportunity to put right his mistake. After starring for his national side in midweek and becoming Bulgaria’s top scorer of all time with 48 goals, he’ll be taking good form into the Old Trafford encounter.
He spoke to the M.E.N about overtaking Hristo Bonev’s record and also revealed his only remaining goal is to win the Champions League, after losing in 2002 and 2009 with Bayer Leverkusen and united respectively.
“I’m happy with the record because it was one of my goals,” he said.
“I’ve achieved a lot and now winning the Champions League remains my only unrealised dream.
“I took part in two finals and failed to win it so now I hope to make it third time lucky.”
