Berbatov injury boost for United

Dimitar Berbatov could provide some good news for Manchester United if he gets through Bulgaria’s friendly match with Malta unscathed.

The striker hasn’t played for United since scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Blackburn last month. He has missed matches against CSKA Moscow and league leaders Chelsea.

“I received a kick in my knee during the Blackburn match and I needed some rest and some treatment, but I’m okay now and I’ll play in Malta,” Berbatov told reporters.

He also has one eye on Hristo Bonev’s goalscoring record of 47 goals for Bulgaria. Berbatov needs just one goal to equal the record or a brace to beat it.

“I’m thinking about it, of course. I’ve scored many goals so far and I hope that with the help of my team-mates I’ll do it.”

  1. His record for Bulgaria is amazing. if he was that prolific for us it would have been 30 mill well spent.

  2. Good news. He was just starting to hit some form as well, so a couple of goals for Bulgaria to break the record should mean he comes back to us in high spirits.
