Beckham: Once a red, always a red

David Beckham insists he’s always found the idea of returning to Old Trafford with another club difficult, because of the love he has for the club.

Now at AC Milan, Beckham still watches Manchester United as often as he can and is still a huge fan of the club.

“When I was at Real Madrid it just never felt right to come back to Old Trafford,” he told Inside United magazine.

“The thought of playing United always gives me that sick feeling because I missed the club so much.

“The first few years away were hard and there were a lot of things I missed. It was the club I always wanted to play for and I loved every minute of my time there.

“I always wish I was part of Manchester United, it’s just in me. Even though I’m not there any more, I’m still a huge fan and watch every game where possible.

Beckham is now looking forward to the first knockout stage of the Champions League, where United face Milan and he believes the atmosphere will make it a very emotional night.

“When the draw was made it just felt it was the right time to go back. There isn’t one player I’m particularly looking forward to facing. I’m just looking forward to being a part of it all and savouring the atmosphere in both games.

“Returning to Old Trafford is going to be special and a very emotional night. I’ve spoken to Gary Neville since the draw and we both believe it’s going to be a great tie.”

  1. Looking forward to welcoming him back to OT. Always liked Beckham and good to see he stills hold the club in such a high regard.

  2. Just wish he would have never had been seduced by the fame and Posh. Would have loved to see him still here along with Giggs, Scholes, and Nev with how much he holds the club in high regard. Glad it has worked out well for him though, aside from the MLS.
