Arsenal legend praises Rooney

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised Wayne Rooney and believes he’s currently reaping the rewards of playing further forward than he’s bee used to in previous seasons.

Rooney’s best position was thought to be in “the hole” behind a centre forward. Henry believes Rooney has always had the ability to be a central striker, but his all action performances have meant he’s arrived in the box out of breath and his scoring rate has suffered as a result.

‘People were having a go at him before because he wasn’t scoring,’ said Henry, who scored 174 Premier League goals,’ Henry told the Daily Mail.

‘But how can he score when he was running like a nutter to get the ball? When he was arriving in the final third he was not fresh enough to finish, and this year you see the difference. If he stays up there for 10 years, he will score goals for 10 years.’

  1. It’s going to be exciting to see where he ends up. To think he is over halfway to Henry’s Premier league goal tally, and the possibility that Wayne still hasn’t hit his peak is awesome. It’s going to be a fun ride.
